The Send Signals Check-in Kit
A check-in that fits in a pocket.
The fob is a small round device made for one job. No apps, no games, no web browser. Just a gentle buzz at the end of a lesson, three faces, and a way to ask for help without saying a word.
Its software is written by us, only for Send Signals, and it comes in our own case. You won't find this check-in anywhere else.
The fob is optional and charged separately from the software. Pupils with a tablet or laptop can use the Send Signals app instead.
Swipe, tap, or use the side buttons
Six screens
Always in the same order. Always in the same place.
Pupils swipe between six cards: Clock, Check in, Today, Signals sent, My Week and Settings. Nothing moves, nothing changes without warning, and the most used card is always one swipe away.
Clock
The time and the date, with the Send Signals face.
Check in
How was the lesson? Good, not great, or need help.
Today
The day's lessons, with a tick for each one done. Missed one? Catch up here.
Signals sent
Every signal a pupil has sent, with a blue tick once the SEND team has seen it.
My Week
A pupil's own week at a glance. Only theirs, never anyone else's.
Settings
Sound, vibration, clock face, colours, brightness and Wi-Fi.
Made for real school days
Thought through for the moments that go wrong.
A pupil's day doesn't always go to plan, so the fob doesn't assume it will.
Wrong face?
There's a short window to undo or change it before anything is sent.
No Wi-Fi?
The answer is saved on the fob and sent as soon as it can connect.
Off school?
"At home" lets a pupil say why in one tap, from five simple reasons.
Lost it?
Staff press Report lost. It stops working at once and clears the pupil's details.
Two buttons
Works with a touch, or without one.
Some pupils prefer buttons to a touch screen. Both work everywhere.
- Hold the blue button to check in from any screen
- Press the blue button to move to the next card
- Press the yellow button to go back
- A short buzz three minutes before the end of each lesson, as a vibration, a sound or nothing at all
Pocket sized
Smaller than a credit card. Lighter than a phone.
The fob fits in a blazer pocket, a pencil case or a school bag. It's made to be carried, not worn: nothing goes around a pupil's neck. It charges over USB-C, like most phones.
Manufacturer's figures for the device itself, before its case. It also has two side buttons, a vibration motor, a small speaker and a rechargeable 450 mAh battery.
Our own case
Tough, grippy, and easy to keep hold of.
Every fob comes in a soft case we're designing ourselves, for school bags and busy corridors.
- Extra protection for the screen and the device inside
- A keyring loop, so it clips onto a belt loop or a bag, always within reach
- An easy grip with a tactile, sensory feel, so it's something pupils are happy to hold
- No accidental resets: the case covers the small reset button
Safe by design
It does one job, and nothing else.
A phone can do a thousand things a school has to worry about. The fob was built to do one, and to leave out everything that could put a pupil at risk.
No GPS
The fob has no GPS and never sends a list of the Wi-Fi networks around it. Nothing on it is built to find out where a pupil is.
No camera, no listening
There's no camera, and our software never switches on the device's built-in microphone. It can't take photos or record anything.
Can't contact anyone
No messaging, no web browser, no apps and no games. Nobody can message a pupil through it, and a pupil can't message anyone except the school's preset signals.
No SIM, no mobile data
No mobile data and no SIM card, and Bluetooth is never used. It only connects to Wi-Fi that the school or family has set up.
Encrypted in transit
Pupil data is only sent over an encrypted connection the fob has checked is really Send Signals. If anything gets in the way, it keeps the data rather than send it.
Signed updates
Updates arrive over Wi-Fi and must carry our digital signature, or the fob refuses them. If an update goes wrong, it rolls back by itself.
Lost? Locked.
One press in the staff hub stops it working and clears the pupil's information. What happens to a lost fob
Nothing to sign in to
The school links each fob to one pupil. There's no password to remember, share or have stolen.
No names on show
Fobs can't be labelled with a pupil's name, and on your network each one is called sendsignals-fob plus a code.
CE marked and imported into the UK by Send Signals Limited. Safety, battery and disposal details are on our device compliance page.
If a fob is lost
Lost doesn't mean exposed.
The pupil's name is never stored on the fob, and there's no password on it to steal. If one goes missing, a member of staff presses Report lost in the hub, and the fob does the rest.
- It stops working. The next time it connects, it no longer accepts check-ins or signals, so whoever finds it can't use it.
- It hands over, then clears. Anything the pupil saved before it went missing is delivered to school and flagged as coming from a lost fob. Then it clears the pupil's information.
- It asks to go home. Any tap shows "If found, please return this to" with your school's name, and our postal address as a back-up. Nothing about the pupil.
- It forgets your Wi-Fi. If it stays lost for more than a day, it deletes its saved networks, including your school's Wi-Fi login.
- Found it? Press Found it in the hub and it carries on as before.
Even before anyone reports it, a fob that hasn't been used or heard from for 12 hours shows the return message as soon as someone presses a button.
Staff stay in control
Set it up once, from the staff hub.
There's nothing to configure on each fob. The SEND team sets the rules for the whole school in the hub, and every fob picks them up over Wi-Fi.
- Lesson reminder: vibrate, sound or silent. Silent switches the reminder off on every fob.
- The signals pupils can send, and the "Anything to add?" choices
- When check-ins close each day, and whether "At home" is offered
- Term dates and closed days, so fobs stay quiet on holidays
- The three-red rule and the kind words a pupil sees
Pupils make it theirs
Within the school's rules, a pupil can choose their own sound, vibration, clock face, colours and brightness.
Quiet at night
No reminders between 10pm and 6am, whatever the settings.
Works offline
Holds up to 20 check-ins and 20 signals until it can send them, even through a power cut.
Kind, even offline
A pupil's third red shows a kind message straight away, with or without Wi-Fi.
Put a fob in a pupil's hand.
The fob is an optional extra, charged separately from the software. Founding schools get fobs on loan, free, with the software free for a term. Try every screen first in the live demo.
